| Mulches |
|
Mulch is one of the most valuable ingredients in the garden. Some of the key benefits of mulch are: • Saves water • Stops weeds • Saves time • Keeps soil cool • Reduces plant stress • Helps build soil microbe population • Adds organic matter to the soil • Helps retain fertiliser in the soil When mulching, it is always beneficial to fertilise first, using organic fertilisers such as Dynamic Lifter, or inorganic fertilisers such as Osmocote. Mulch mat can then be laid to assist in weed suppression. Ideally mulch should be laid to a depth of 50-100mm. Keep mulches well away from plant stems or trunks, to prevent infection from fungal diseases.
